About Borderdoodles
Origin: The Borderdoodle, also known as "Bordoodle", is a hybrid cross between the two smartest dogs in the world, a purebred Border Collie #1 and a Purebred Poodle #2. Borderdoodles are recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC), Designer Dogs Kennel Club (DDKC), Dog Registry of America, Inc (DRA), International Designer Canine Registry (IDCR) and Designer Breed Registry (DBR) and Continental Kennel Club (CKC).
Size: The average Borderdoodle has a shoulder height of 18-22 inches and typically weighs 40-45 lbs. See ourSize Chart
***NOTE: Mountain Rose Borderdoodles breeds a variety of sizes depending upon the Sire and Dam. Our smallest stud poodle is 12 lbs (not a Toy poodle) while our largest is 50 lbs. Our smallest Border Collie female is 35 lbs while our largest is 45 lbs. We only cross breed to Standard, Moyen and Mini Poodles (not Toys) to insure that we maintain high intelligence in our dogs, which is first and foremost in our breeding goals.
Coat: Borderdoodle coats are usually curly, wavy and non-shedding or low shedding. Because of the hybrid cross with the poodle, their coats are usually hypoallergenic as well.
Color: Their colors range from single colors of black, brown, red or white to multi colored combinations.
Eyes: They generally have dark brown eyes, but because of the Border Collie genetics can sometimes (rarely) have blue eyes.
Temperament: Borderdoodles are super smart and may be the easiest to train of all breeds. Because they are a cross between the two smartest dogs in the world, Borderoodles possess a wonderful mind. They like having things to do, playing games and going places. They are tolerant, affectionate and very loyal. They are ideal as family pets and well suited for kids.
***NOTE: The balancing nature of the resulting cross between a "Mountain Rose" Poodle and a "Mountain Rose" Border Collie draw the very best attributes of both breeds while seemingly leaving behind any negatives. Our goals in breeding is to constantly achieve extremely smart, mindfully calm and intuitive Borderdoodles. Because of these proven traits in which we are consistently achieving, our dogs make ideal service dogs ranking high in three particular service categories... 1) Mental Therapy, 2) Assisting Physically Disabled, 3) Diabetic Alert dogs. We are proud to have dogs placed in all 3 categories with several of our dogs excelling as Diabetic Alert Dogs.
Training: The Borderdoodle's tremendous intelligence and desire to please their owners make training fairly simple. Bordoodles are sensitive and live for praise. They are very obedient and agile, able to be taught a great variety of tricks. They are eager to learn and catch on quickly.
Activity: Bordoodles having originated from the Border Collie and Poodle , are most happy when given attention and activities on a regular basis. Bordoodles especially love active sports and are well known to be exceptional athletes excelling in activities such as Frisbee, fetch, obstacle course competitions, and more. They love hikes and enjoy experiencing the great outdoors with their family and companions.
Life Span: Bordoodles have a life span of 12-15 years.
